It Wasn’t Me…

…I was framed! This young black bear looks up at me from the river with such a guiltless look on his face – as if declaring his innocence. But look at the possible ‘crime scene’ you’ve stumbled upon. Lying on the rock to the bears right hand side is a salmon carcass, split open and surrounded by blood, so surely the young bruin is the culprit! But is he? Look more closely, the carcass is yellowy, a clear sign of a spawned out salmon and the skin looks all leathery, another clear sign of a long since past fish. So ok, he might have poked and prodded, but maybe on this occasion the black bear is telling us the truth, he’s not responsible for the death of the fish!
