
Look at this guy, showing his all more like a ‘king’ egret rather than a cattle egret! This guy is in his full mating plumage, taken last spring in the Olhao region of Portugal. Traditionally all white, male cattle egrets will take on this longer rusty orange tinge to their plumage for a short while. Not long after this shot was taken his plumage would start to moult, however, sometimes they do keep a little of an orange shadow around their heads.
