Here was a little surprise from my visit to the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary back in June. This little cub of the year (coy) popped his head up from amongst the Lyngby’s sedge to have a quick look at us. I say it was a surprise because it was still a little early for coy’s to be down by the water, but his mum had brought him down off the mountain a little farther along the inlet and was keeping him away from the estuary and the large males that were still hanging around for the last few days of the mating season. We had a very brief sighting of him from afar the day before this shot, but his mum was quick to take him back in to the woods on that occasion and I didn’t think we’d get another chance to see him – so this was a real treat that she let him stick around for us on this particular day.
