An Old Boot!

Here’s a view from Portugal’s ‘Cabo de Sao Vicente’ (Cape St. Vincent) and on first glance I’d say it was another piece of ‘natural art’, this time representing the form of an old ankle boot – left behind by a Pleistocene ogre or giant before the rise of the oceans perhaps! Despite my tongue in cheek description of the nearby rocks, Cape St. Vincent itself is steeped in ancient history and beliefs some dating back to the ancient greeks and roman times. It is also the south westernmost point of mainland Europe (the ‘edge of the world’) and is marked by a large lighthouse (below) which helps guide mariners ‘around the corner’ when heading towards (or from) the Mediterranean. Today’s light, completed in the early 1900’s, was not the first on the site and stands some 24metres high, with a light that can easily by seen over 50km away!
