I’m just back from a trip to Portugal, learning a lot of history and observing parts of the spring bird migration from Africa to Europe. But whilst there I did manage to see one or two other smaller animals too and one of the hardest to find are these guys – the Mediterranean Chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon). Trying to spot one of these in the bush is very difficult, even when you know they are there they are still not easy to see without a keen eye. These days, being an endangered species they are quite rightly protected and the penalties if you are caught with one or handling one can be quite severe.
