Eye Level

Some of the best shots you can get as a nature photographer are those with direct eye contact with your subject. Being in a small inflatable at low tide in the Khutzeymateen provides great opportunities for this and can give you some great eye level shots with the bears when they are out on the mud flats digging for clams. Whilst this shot not only gives us great eye contact with the bear, it also lends the appearance that the bruin is coming straight for us, but of course that is not the case – he was simply changing spots to dig in and I was fortunate to catch him just at the right time.
