Blue Jade

I came across this eye-catching colourful vine on a visit to Maui, but it is a natural inhabitant of the Philippines that was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands as a colourful and decorative addition to many gardens. Today however, the Blue Jade Vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys) is thriving amongst the islands tropical jungle environment, where they can grow upwards of 25 metres (75ft.). Although introduced and now growing wild, it is not considered an invasive species and is even considered by some as one of Hawaii’s ‘must-see’ plants.
