Back in November of 2023 I published a post called ‘This Way Mum’ which many seemed to like and comment on. One of the most popular questions was about the young bear’s mark on the top of his head. As I said to several people at the time, this marking is predominantly hereditary, a lot of the bears in the area have similar markings, including some of the older and more dominant males. Here’s a couple of shots of the same youngster a couple of years after that earlier post and you can clearly see how his markings are filling out and taking shape. I’ve no idea for certain who his father is, but check out this old guy, Handsome. This bear had been one of the dominant resident males in the area for quite a few years and certainly was around the year before our little guy here had been born.
