Even when you’re one of the biggest black bears on a coastal river system and especially when it’s salmon season, you still have to be wary and continuously check your surroundings for safety. This large black bear decided to eat his salmon catch in situ rather than take it up in to the bush, but he was constantly looking around in between bites. No doubt confident of his size when it comes to some of the other black bears in the area, but you never know, a ‘chancer’ might come along or worse still a grizzly bear – who were also known to frequent this particular river too.
