Actually, this is a young coastal grey wolf from British Columbia, but despite their name, seeing tinges of brown, white and black running through their coats is not uncommon. It is thought that wolves with brown as the more dominant colour predominantly live in forests and woody areas – the brown helps with their camouflage when hunting for deer etc. However, their fur does not naturally change colour as they travel from habitat to habitat thus, despite his brown coat, seeing this guy down on a beach on the BC coast is not unusual.
