A Star in the Grass

Here’s a picture taken in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary last June featuring one of the Star sisters feeding on sedge. How can I be so sure it is one of those two bruin princesses? Well, I can’t be 100 percent sure without DNA of course, but I’m pretty certain she’s one of them. Partly because I know those bears so well and, although their appearance may vary slightly year on year and of course with each season, some features don’t change very much. Take a closer look at her head and you’ll notice she has that distinctive patch on her forehead, now take a look at the inquisitive young bear watching us in the picture below. What do you think? Same bear? The lower picture was taken ten years previous to the main shot when she and her sister were a couple of years old! (see Remember the Queen).
