This is one of those ‘Quick while they’re not looking’ storyline shots. It’s as if the eagles are posing nicely for an engagement photograph and whilst they’re watching the camera the ducks (scaups and bufflehead) are quickly sneaking past behind them whilst they can. That of course was not really the case, the shot was taken during the herring run on the BC coast and with lots of fish around there was plenty of food for all and so the ducks could reasonably share the same space as the eagles – simply, they were not on the menu that day!
