Back in 2017 the Khutzeymateen matriarch ‘Big Momma’ had two cubs (see Family Portrait) and by the fall the female had developed a beautiful two-tone blond/dark coat (see Stunning Blond). Sadly the male cub didn’t make it, but in the spring of 2018 Big Momma weaned ‘Honey’ as she was now known and she was soon off to fend for for herself. Throughout the course of that season, I saw her periodically and she seemed to be doing really well. During my visit earlier this year, this stunning blond female was hanging out around Big Momma’s favourite patch and she didn’t mind the presence of the boat at all. She was certainly about the right age and with that golden honey colouration – plus her want to stick around the area of her youth, made me think that this might well be her. Of course we can never be 100 percent right without DNA, but whether it is or isn’t, this sure is a stunning young blond grizzly bear!
