Today’s Friday Flashback is from 8th May 2015 and is entitled ‘Is That Smell You?’. No this bear wasn’t being rude in it’s question it was just using it’s strongest sense to ascertain its safety and see who was around.
Original Text: “Taken in the early fall on a creek in British Columbia, a young juvenile grizzly bear looks up and smells the air. For grizzly bears, besides their obvious strength, their sense of smell – seven times better than that of a dog – is one of their biggest protectors. They can often smell danger (and food) several miles away and, if necessary, get out of the vicinity long before any confrontation occurs and quite often without any potential aggressor even knowing they were there. In this shot, this young bear is looking up at the creekside just a few yards away, to get a whiff of more people arriving to take a look at him – the only threat, or rather disturbance, to his day on this occasion!“
