Early last month, as in March every year, the herring on the Eastern Vancouver Island stretch of the BC coast return to spawn and as their wonder of nature turns the water a glimmering shiny turquoise colour, they quietly remind us all that spring is on its way. As the fish lay their eggs, nature gathers and for the first time of the year they all get to feast after winter’s famine. Here we see a bald eagle watching the goings on from a tree on a beach as the herring start to spawn just off shore.
