Keep Up Son

Photography aficionados will tell you one of the key rules of wildlife photography is not to use shots of the animal ‘showing its teeth’ as it can be construed as threatening to the viewer. Well, in this case I want to ‘break the rules’ as the open mouth adds to the story of the shot, especially when you look at the caring look in the bear’s eyes. This shot, taken one spring here on the BC coast shows a mother grizzly bear that had been making her way along the beach with her yearling cub in tow. This is the moment she turned and looked back as if telling the distracted young bear to keep up. (see what he’s up to here – ‘Barnacle Bear‘)
