Sometimes the kids just never want a leave home! This juvenile bald eagle was regularly flying around the eagle nest I visited back in the spring (see Waiting For Breakfast). The parents at the nest would continually call out to the young eagle and one of them even intercepted it and turned it around at one point. Of course, we’ll never know for certain, but those of us that were there that day suspected it was probably a previous chick of the nesting parents. As I’ve mentioned before, whenever possible, adult eagles re-use their nests year on year, just making repairs and upgrades as required, so for previous off spring to still be around and paying so much attention to a particular nest site is not uncommon. I don’t know if it would be a threat to the youngsters in the nest, but I suspect it could be, they would make an easy meal for a hungry juvenile eagle looking for any free meal!
