A recently edited shot from SE Alaska taken a few years back – two cubs of the year watch on as their mom lifts her head and shakes to spin off the water residue after an unsuccessful attempt to catch a salmon. At the time of this shot, this was pretty much day one of the salmon season on this particular creek. Only small numbers of salmon were making it this far up the creek, but the need for some salmon rich protein was strong, so mum had to keep trying. She always stayed on alert though and on one occasion got spooked enough by another bear to make a run for it with cubs in tow – straight towards us! See Queen of Pack Creek.
