I see these large birds up and down the BC coast all the time and always find myself staring over at them to watch what they’re up to. But it has been a little over two years since I’ve featured one here on the blog (see A One Legged Heron), so I thought it was high time we had another. I came across this great blue heron, looking rather wet from a recent downpour, standing on a log out in a small channel in the Khutzeymateen and he was staying perfectly still watching and waiting for a fish to swim along. Even as we went by in our small boat he wasn’t to be deterred and as long as we didn’t get inside his comfort zone, he was quite happy to stand and wait, whilst we grabbed a couple of shots as we passed. More herons can be seen in the new ‘Herons and Egrets’ gallery.
