This is a shot from a couple of years back of a good looking and healthy female grizzly bear as she emerges from the bush on a coastal river system. Often the bears will emerge looking like this and worse, covered in debris and foliage from the surrounding trees, but unlike you or I, they really don’t care too much about their appearance, just getting in to the river and looking for salmon. This bear is well fed and the muscle definition is much more profound on the ‘hump’ – the area between her shoulders which is often described as a method of identifying grizzlies over black bears.
