Here is a shot from back in February this year – an eagle in silhouette (bottom left) sits atop a rock and watches across Boundary Bay and over the border in to the state of Washington in the USA as the sun rises behind Mount Baker. Mount Baker is a 3,286 metre sleeping volcanic peak in the Cascade Mountain Range and is a popular recreation destination throughout the year, with skiers over the winter months and hikers the rest of the year. There are a number of glaciers on the mountain, but as with many other glaciers around the world, they have been retreating rapidly over the last 35 years or so. Boundary Bay sits right on the western border between British Columbia, Canada and the USA and on the BC side is now a regional park that is a favourite haunt of ornithologists. The park is home to many resident birds as well as being the watering holes and wintering grounds to many arctic migrants.
