Here is another young grizzly bear family, photographed a couple of years back now. This mom had brought her two young cubs of the year down on to a coastal creek in search of the first salmon of the season and they are stood out on a small gravel bar at this point. One or two salmon had shown up, but were few and far between. There were other bears around too – so mom, quite rightly, was rather skittish and jumped at every little sound. Here she had heard a noise on the far river bank and spotted a bear emerging from the forest. With all three of them looking in different directions like this, it always makes think they were trying to decide which way to go! (…wondering which way they did go? See Queen of Pack Creek).
