Transient Sunset

Transient-Spyhop

This is a shot of a transient orca taken just before sunset in Discovery Passage, just off Campbell River here on the BC coast. As well as the great bow wave and profile of the orca as it raises it’s head out of the water, I really like the warm golden light and reflection of the sunset in the dorsal fin. Some recent whale news – towards the end of April, Vancouver Island North applied to become a ‘Whale Heritage Site’. This is a great initiative that will see the communities of northern Vancouver Island, including Campbell River, working together for an internationally recognized accreditation, which amongst other things, will hopefully help to bring and endorse marine conservation in our local waters – more info on this can be found here – Whale Heritage Site. Like many of us here, I’m looking forward to getting back out on the water again this coming ‘whale’ season.
