A30s

A30s

A trip through the archives revealed that on this date in 2013 I posted a blog about resident orca here on the BC coast and thought I’d follow that blast from the past with another pod of resident orca for today’s post also. This is the A30s, a well known pod of the northern resident orca clans and one of the easiest to recognize. First off one of the females of the pod, A72, (seen at the head of this shot), has a large gash in the front of her dorsal fin and secondly they have a large male, A38, (the closest dorsal fin tip sticking out of the water in his shot) which has what appears to be the biggest dorsal fin of all the northern residents, both he and his now deceased brother A39, (seen in full here), had dorsal fins estimated at almost two metres high. For anyone who would like the opportunity to join me on a trip to photograph resident orca and other marine wildlife here on the BC coast, there are still some spaces on the August guided Marine Photo Tour. As for that original post from 2013 it can be seen here – Orca Pod.
