Rainbow Blows

Rainbow-Blows

Here is a shot from last summer of three or four humpback whales on fast passage to a feeding ground off Juneau, SE Alaska, (see also bubble netters). The whales were reacting to the call from a breaching humpback, which not only got their attention, but ours as well, (see also Humpback Launch). Seeing humpback whales anytime is pretty special, but what really caught my eye on this occasion was the colours left in the blows by the refraction of the light through the watery mist – it just made for an unusual, interesting shot at the time.
