Red Flowering Currant

Red-Flowering-Currant

Here is a new addition to the recently published Flora Gallery – the Red Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum) photographed here on the BC coast. This plant is a native of BC coastal forests, open pastures and recently logged areas. This shrub can grow to 3 metres high and in the late summer will produce a bluish-black edible berry, which can be quite bland or tasteless and isn’t regarded to highly, especially with jam makers! The colourful flowers however, can be a great attractant for hummingbirds.
