Further to my post from a couple of weeks ago (see Leaping for Salmon) here is one of the sub-adult grizzly bears having been successful in catching itself a sockeye salmon. The sockeye salmon run in many parts of the BC coast was reported to be exceptional, so much so that for a short while even a sockeye fishery was opened on the coast – the first in many a year. For me and several other photographers working a little further inland, seeing grizzly bears emerge from the water with the crimson salmon between their teeth was a treat and for me, yet another first.
