This is one of my favourite shots from my trip to the Khutzeymateen Valley, here on the BC coast last spring. With this shot you could be easily mistaken in to thinking this was a large dog swimming by, but it is in fact the boss grizzly bear, the biggest male that has been around that area for the past couple of years, affectionately known as the ‘King of the Khutzeymateen’. What I particularly like about this shot is not necessarily the tight, fur filling close-up of the shot, but the bear’s eyes. Although he was swimming right to left very close across the front of the zodiac, he still kept one eye to his left on us and with no sudden movements or noise from the boat he quite happily and calmly carried on by to finish checking out for interlopers in his territory. More can been of him and the other bears in the Khutzeymateen Gallery.
