In late fall as the bears of the British Columbia coast are thinking about heading up to the mountains for the winter, the humpback whales of the coast are thinking about making a trip of their own. The humpbacks of the Alaskan and BC coasts head off to the warmer waters of Hawaii and Mexico. Once they leave our coastal waters and reach warmer climes, they do not feed, as these waters are too warm to support the krill and species of small fish the whales feed on, so it could be over 3 months between meals for some of these whales.
