One year later (late spring 2010) and after his first full winter hibernating with his mother the young grizzly cub emerged looking much bigger and long legged almost like a ‘teddy bear’. The bears look a little shabby as they shed their winter coats and throughout a season can actually have three or four different colour changes as their coats shed, grow and thicken again ready for the next winter. Sadly I only had one other sighting of the young bear in 2010, but a close connection with others that visited the area kept me informed of his progress as he grew and became much more aware of his surroundings. He was becoming more vociferous with others in his environment and a very playful young bear.
