Save Tigers Now!

This is Attie.
Attie is a Siberian tiger that was born in captivity and sadly will never see the East Russian forests of his ancestral home.  In 2010 I got to photograph Attie ‘inside the fence’ on the ranch where he lives.

Now I don’t condone keeping wildlife in captivity, but it was an opportunity to photograph a beautiful animal without any bars or fences and a chance to put Attie to work to help save other tigers that are still free and wild, and they need all the help they can get. I produced a series of five 8×10 prints and a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of those prints in 2011 was to be donated to a tiger protection charity.  Today, I was able to make a donation to the WWF & Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Save Tigers Now’ campaign. (www.savetigersnow.org) Thank you for your support.

The receipt included the following message:
You are helping to protect tigers! Your support helps WWF save the tiger in its vast range from India to China, to the Russian Far East. WWF focuses its activities on anti-poaching efforts in critical tiger sites, building political will in tiger range countries, protecting and connecting tiger habitats on a massive scale, and clamping down on tiger trade. Together, we can preserve an icon of the wild, and save the tiger for future generations.

Additional donations can be made at the link above.

Closer to home, the WWF are also working hard to help protect a vital part of the BC coast, more on this project can be found here: The Great Bear Sea
