Photographed in Yellowstone back in February 2016, this red fox was seen heading down a hillside and checking ahead of itself whilst out looking for voles. It had a good go at catching something a little farther down the hill, (see below) but missed out on that occasion. Finding food in winter with snow on the ground can be tough for these canids, but foxes seem to have a good handle on things and hear the slightest movement of potential prey under the snow and ice – see also Leaping Fox.
