No Hollywood like makeup or special effects here, but with Halloween coming tomorrow, I thought I’d bring you this genuine, living (so to speak) zombie of the BC coast. After they spawn, salmon can live for several days as their bodies break down and start to rot right in front of their very own eyes. We often see them in the fall like this, taking their last gasps of air before dying. Here on the coast they are often ‘affectionately’ known as zombies and this dying male pink salmon, (aka humpie) with his vicious looking ‘spawning teeth’ jutting out of the water is a good example of this.
